Weather

Weather forecasts are provided by KU's Dr. Michael Davis and "Monsoon Mike" Regensburger

Cut-off low pressure continues to spin around and offer us rounds of showers and thunderstorms. But unlike the past few very dark days, today may feature a few periods of sunshine at times, as well, making it less dreary, but any sun would make temperatures warmer and perhaps destabilize the atmosphere causing a heavier thunderstorm. High of 73.

Environmental Biology Tree Planting Celebrates Earth Week

As they have for the past 13 years, in recognition of Earth Day, students in two labs for the Environmental Biology class at KU participated in a collaborative effort with the Kutztown Borough Environmental Commission (EAC) to clear woody debris and to plant 83 native trees and shrubs along the Sacony Creek and in open woodlands at Kutztown Borough North Park. Tree purchases were funded by a matching grant to the Kutztown Borough EAC. Dr. Todd Underwood, biology faculty member and chair of the Kutztown Borough EAC, applied for this grant to support habitat restoration along the Sacony Trail. Underwood is a leader in building strong ties between the university and the borough. Cheyenne Friscia, Andrew Martin and Tommy Lazorik, who are all organismal biology/ecology majors, helped to lead the tree planting event. Nearly 40 Kutztown University students participated over two days in this class-based, service-learning tree and shrub planting activity. All the trees and shrubs that were planted are native to Pennsylvania and were added to reinforce the importance of the Sacony Trail as a home and habitat for wildlife.
