Rohrbach Library Open House

Join us for Rohrbach Library's annual Open House, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15. This event is a fantastic opportunity for new students to explore library services and resources. The Open House includes a scavenger hunt that will lead students through the building and our website to answer specific questions. Ed.D. Summer Residency Program

Kutztown University's Ed.D. in Transformational Teaching and Learning welcomed scholars from Cohort 8 and Cohort 9 for our second annual Summer Residency, a three-day program focused on building community, strengthening scholarship and supporting scholars throughout their doctoral journeys. Scholars connected with peers and LSC chairs, received individualized support from KU staff and heard from Year 3 scholars who shared their experiences and offered a glimpse into what lies ahead. Karen Wanamaker provided library and research support, while Dr. Carl Sheperis explored the use of artificial intelligence in doctoral scholarship. Drs. Brenda Muzeta and Andy Miness supported Cohort 8 with conceptual frameworks and research methodology, while Drs. Kathy Stanfa and Tabetha Bernstein introduced the SAEG protocol for collaborative learning and feedback. Jeff Werner provided training in the IRB process. Cohort 9 launched its first doctoral course with Bernstein and Kittie Pain stopped by to welcome our scholars. At its heart, the residency builds the relationships, scholarly community and support systems that sustain our scholars throughout their Ed.D. journey.

Open Auditions for New Play

An informational meeting about auditions for the play "Centralia: The Fire Below" will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, 120 Rickenbach Learning Center (the Communication Research Center). Seeking four actors: two M/F ages 40-70, and two M/F ages 18-22. Rehearsals start the last week of September and all acting roles are paid. The world premiere will be Oct. 15-17, Schaeffer Auditorium Main Stage. For more information, email centralia@kutztown.edu.

Social Equity Policies Training

The Office of Compliance will offer six Social Equity Policies training sessions this fall pursuant to the university's Anti-Harassment, Anti-Discrimination, Sexual Misconduct, Accommodations, and Amorous Relationships policies. All sessions are at 9 a.m. via Zoom. Register online. Dates include Friday, Sept. 4; Thursday, Sept. 17; Wednesday, Oct. 14; Monday, Oct. 26; Wednesday, Nov. 11; and Tuesday, Nov. 24. All faculty, staff and volunteers must complete the Social Equity Policies training on a yearly basis. If you cannot recall when you last completed the training, please contact the Office of Compliance and we will be glad to check our records. Training can also be completed through D2L in the Social Equity Policy Training 2026 module. If you would like to schedule an in-person training for your department, please send a request by email to compliance@kutztown.edu or jdixon@kutztown.edu, or contact the Office of Compliance at extension 3-4700. Please obtain approval from your supervisor if necessary.

PASSHE Summit Proposals Due Sept. 10

Kutztown University is hosting the PASSHE Summit Wednesday, Oct. 28 and Thursday, Oct. 29. This is a great time to submit a proposal since there is no travel needed. Proposals can be submitted by Thursday, Sept. 10 using WHOVA/Proposal Submission. Everyone is welcome to register to attend the Summit either in person or virtually. Registration is free for PASSHE students, staff and faculty. Non-PASSHE folks may attend for a nominal registration fee.

KU Vision Program Selected as Exclusive Volunteer Partner for National Conference

The KU Vision Program, led by Dr. Nicole Johnson, professor of Special Education, has earned a remarkable vote of confidence from the Council for Exceptional Children’s Division on Visual Impairment and Deafblindness (CEC-DVIDB) by selecting KU as the exclusive source of student volunteers for its 2027 "Getting in Touch with Literacy Conference" in Long Beach, California. The honor comes after KU students were recognized as exceptional volunteers at the previous conference, prompting organizers to request them exclusively for this event. Fourteen students will receive sponsored registration, lodging and meals to attend and serve. This opportunity highlights the outstanding preparation of KU students and the national reputation of the Vision Program.

A few reminders about submitting data requests:
- Submit IR requests to irrequests@kutztown.edu with as much detail as possible so we can deliver exactly what you need.
- Helpful details include the specific data or report, criteria (term, date range, student population, program), preferred format and your need-by date.
- Many requests are fulfilled within five business days; more complex requests require a longer timeframe.
We're building tools for easier self-service access to information across campus, including dashboards and self-service datasets. Coming in the next few months: enrollment, persistence and graduation dashboards.

Tutoring Services

Tutoring Services, located in 26 Rohrbach Library, provides a comprehensive support program designed to help students succeed academically while building the skills needed to become confident, lifelong learners. Tutors are available for most 100- and 200-level courses and some upper-level classes. Students can schedule tutoring appointments in Starfish using the tutor link next to their course, or by clicking the "I Need Help" button if tutoring is not listed. Academic Peer Mentors (APMs) are available to all students for supplementary guidance and support. APM appointments can be scheduled in Starfish under the APM section in "My Services". Students may also take advantage of Tutor.com, a virtual tutoring platform available 24/7.
