KU Foundation Breaks Ground on Solar Array to Generate Long-Term Support for KU

The Kutztown University Foundation (KUF) broke ground Thursday, Sept. 24, on a new 4.6-megawatt solar array. The net income earned from this project will enable the Foundation to provide additional scholarships and resources and will serve as a significant new source of support for Kutztown University. The solar array will be located on approximately 15 acres of KUF-owned land west of Golden Bear Village South and will include approximately 8,000 bifacial solar panels. Once operational, the array is expected to generate approximately 6.2 million kilowatt-hours of power in its first year. Construction of the solar array is expected to begin in October 2026, pending final township approval, with completion anticipated in summer 2027.

CEL Wows Millersville Faculty with Interactive Workshop

Twenty Millersville University faculty members, along with their provost, participated in "Motivating and Engaging Your Students," an interactive workshop led by Center for Engaged Learning (CEL) faculty director Erin Kraal Friday, Sept. 18. Rather than simply hearing about the pedagogy of play, participants experienced it firsthand through a dozen research-informed activities designed to spark engagement, creativity and connection. Faculty explored ways to adapt each strategy across disciplines and left with practical ideas they could use right away. Participants also received a set of CEL's Tarot of Teaching Cards and the CEL Handbook of Playful Learning. Feedback at the end of the workshop was highly positive, with participants praising the session's energy, usefulness and ready-to-use strategies. The exchange continues Thursday, Oct. 1, when Millersville's Dr. Leslie Gates visits KU to present Increasing the Quality of Peer Feedback 11-11:50 a.m. in the CEL, 6 Rohrbach Library. Gates will share practical strategies for strengthening peer feedback in your courses. 10th Annual Gender and Sexual Minorities Conference

Kutztown University's LGBTQ+ Resource Center and Women's Center will host the 10th annual Gender and Sexual Minorities Conference Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, McFarland Student Union (MSU). This year's theme is "The Personal IS Political." The annual conference serves as an educational forum for all community members to explore topics surrounding struggles, progress and movements towards gender equity, visibility and cultural change.

Doc Jones Steps Away as KU Rugby Head Coach, Jeff Duke Steps Into Role

Kutztown University announced leadership changes for men's rugby as longtime head coach Dr. Gregg A. Jones, also known as “Doc,” will step away from the role and associate coach Jeff Duke will take over the reins of the program. Jones has presided over the Golden Bears for the last four decades, transforming the program into a blue blood of college rugby, particularly in 7s. Following a third-place finish at last weekend's national tournament, Kutztown has reached nine quarterfinals, eight final fours and four finals in 12 all-time CRC National 7s appearances, all under Jones' leadership. “My 40-year coaching tenure at KU has been the most rewarding and enjoyable chapter of my life,” Jones said. "I can’t begin to thank all of the people who I have met along the way and those who have made this journey possible. To all the young men that I had the privilege to coach, always remember, the secret to success is to go to work every day.”
