Summer Food Donations Appreciated for On-Campus Students
When classes end and most students head home for the summer, some stay behind often quietly without fanfare and too often, without enough to eat. These students may be independent, international, former foster care students or working jobs that don’t pay enough to cover rising grocery costs. For them, summer can be a time of isolation and increased need. With the campus dining hall running limited hours and limited access to kitchens in transitional housing between semesters, food insecurity becomes even more pressing. Last summer, more than 21 students turned to our summer donation program for help. With a larger number of students expected to remain on campus this summer, we're asking for your help once again. Here's how you can make a difference:
- Cooking for your family this summer? Make a little extra. A pan of pasta, chili, salad, baked ziti or a side dish can go a long way. No need to feed a crowd, students come and go, and Nadia has to-go containers ready to portion it out.
- Prefer to keep it simple? Gift cards to Giant (within walking distance) allow students to shop for what they need most. Smaller cards, $10 each, are even more helpful than one large denomination.
- Spread the word. Share this effort with others who care.
Donations can be delivered to 109 Stratton during normal business hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or contact Nadia Daher directly at 610-683-4169 or daher@kutztown.edu to arrange a pickup. Please use the sign-up link to let us know what you plan to donate and when, so we can spread the support throughout the summer. Thank you for helping our students feel seen, supported and nourished.
