Council of Trustees Approve Admissions Welcome Center to be Named in Hawkinson's Honor

The Kutztown University Council of Trustees approved the naming of the Hawkinson Admissions Welcome Center in honor of university president, Dr. Kenneth S. Hawkinson, at the council’s April meeting, Thursday, April 24. The Hawkinson Admissions Welcome Center, located at the corner of Kutztown Rd. and College Blvd., will include a renovation of the Poplar House and a new 10,300-square-foot addition. The new addition will include a lobby and gathering space with a reception/information counter with interactive displays and kiosks; a large multi-purpose meeting room, capable of both table seating for receptions or lecture style layout for presentations; a catering kitchen to support special events; offices for a portion of admissions department staff; and a lounge for student tour guides. The facility will also include state-of-the-art HVAC, lighting and audio/visual features. The building is set to be dedicated at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 5.

CTM Students win Best Student Film at Allentown Film Festival

Congratulations to Cinema, Television and Media Production students Christa Lowthert (sophomore) and Jennifer Nevin (junior) who won the "College Student Film Prize” for their short film, "The Witness," at the 2025 Allentown Film Festival.

Men's Rugby to Compete at CRCs this Weekend

The Golden Bear men's rugby team will compete at the 15th annual Collegiate Rugby Championship this weekend, April 25-26, in Boyds, Md. Kutztown, 2024 runners-up to Wheeling, is a No. 1 seed for the fourth year in a row and opens play at 10:20 a.m. Friday, April 25, against Iona. The Golden Bears are seeking their second title in four years. Follow along this weekend at the CRC website.

Senior Art Exhibition for Art Education Graduates

The Miller Gallery presents the Senior Exhibition for Art Education Graduates April 26 to May 4. This exhibition features artwork in all mediums by our future art educators. The opening reception is 2-4 p.m. Sunday, April 27. The Gallery is located off of the fountain entrance of the Sharadin Arts Building. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays and 2-4 p.m. Sundays.

Mobile Mammograms Returning to KU May 5

The Lehigh Valley Topper Cancer Institute will bring its mobile mammography coach to Kutztown University Monday, May 5. Screenings will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center parking lot, E-2. The screening service will be offered to women over 40 years old who have not had a mammogram in the past year. The event is open to the entire community. Post-traditional and graduate students, as well as staff, faculty and community members, can benefit from this opportunity. No prescription is needed for women over the age of 40 who have not had a mammogram in the past year. There are also grant funding opportunities for those over 40 without insurance; those interested should contact the Lehigh Valley Health Network for more information. New Transfer Honor Society Member

Tau Sigma, KU's transfer honor society, recently inducted 53 members into its Eta Mu chapter. These students transferred to KU in Spring 2024 or Fall 2024 and earned at least a 3.5 GPA in their first semester at KU. Tau Sigma will host various events for anyone to attend to support the academic success of KU students. Congratulations to our new members.
