Happy Pride Month
June is National Pride Month. Pride Month is observed worldwide to celebrate the diversity, resilience and contributions of LGBTQIA+ individuals while promoting inclusivity and understanding of different sexual orientations and gender identities. It is held in June to commemorate the Stonewall Riots of June 1969, when patrons of the Stonewall Inn in New York City resisted a police raid, sparking a pivotal movement for LGBTQ rights. Pride is more than a celebration; it is a promise of belonging. It says every identity matters, every story counts and every heart has the right to shine. As a university, we celebrate our staff, faculty and students who identify as part of our LGBTQIA+ community. Kutztown University and the LGBTQ+ Resource Center will be a part of the following celebrations this summer as we continue to celebrate Pride Month:
-Berks Pride Fest
11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 19, Jim Dietrich Park
- Lehigh Valley Pride
1-7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks
- Pride Night at the Reading Fightin' Phils
6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, FirstEnergy Stadium
We hope you will join us and visit our tables.
Jerry Schearer, Diversity and Inclusion, Chief Diversity Officer
