Dr. Amber Pabon Presents KU FDI Inaugural Enduring Justice Award

Dr. Amber Pabon, associate professor of Secondary Education and director of Kutztown University's Frederick Douglass Institute, honored professor emeritus Stephan Brumberg, CUNY Graduate Center, Urban Affairs, with FDI's inaugural Enduring Impact Award for Stewardship of Historical Knowledge in Pursuit of Educational Justice. Pabon, who completed her Ph.D. in 2013 in CUNY's Urban Education program, presented the award at the 25th anniversary of the program in December. Over the history of the program, which Brumberg helped conceive and launch, several scholars' lives have been deeply impacted by his teaching and research. Pabon stated he "reshaped how I saw myself as a school-practitioner in the larger story of American public education,” and she selected him as the recipient of the award to honor "the lineage that shaped so many of us in the field." In addition to presenting the FDI award, Pabon also created boards representing the last 25 years of education policy and events in New York City and nationwide. She also facilitated cohort-based discussions of how the program impacted their research and careers. Read the full story online.
