Open Forum: Middle States Self-Study Pre-Visit

Please join us as we welcome Dr. Darrell P. Wheeler, president, State University of New York at New Paltz, as Kutztown University’s Self-Study Team Chair, 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, Hawkinson Welcome Center, for the Middle States Self-Study Pre-Visit Open Forum. As the Middle States Higher Education Team Chair, Wheeler is responsible for leading the evaluation team during the accreditation process, ensuring the university’s compliance with MSCHE standards and guiding the self-study process, including the team’s visit Oct. 5-8. Wheeler brings more than 30 years of teaching, research and community partnership experiences. Prior to his role as president of SUNY New Paltz in 2022, Wheeler served as provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs at Iona University; as dean of the School of Social Welfare and vice president for Public Engagement at the University at Albany; and dean for the School of Social Work at Loyola University Chicago. He has additionally held academic positions at Hunter College, CUNY, Columbia University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Wheeler received his Ph.D. in social work and MPH in health administration from the University of Pittsburgh, his MSW in health/mental health from Howard University and his BA in sociology from Cornell College. He served in the United States Air Force and as an intern officer in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. The self-study draft is available online.

KU Ireland Studies Abroad

Kutztown's Ireland Studies Abroad program visited the early medieval monastery of Glendalough. Founded in the sixth century by Saint Kevin, it was one of the most important religious centers in Europe for many centuries. It is situated in the Wicklow Mountains, an important nature reserve.

Three KU Transfer Students Receive Free Tuition from PASSHE

Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) is proud to announce that 29 exceptional community college students will receive free tuition at state-owned universities, continuing the system’s dedication to student success and affordability, including Kutztown University's Colin Hogan (Montgomery County Community College), Angela Caldero-Perez (RACC) and Noemi Gonzalez (RACC). The outstanding students were selected by their community colleges and named to the prestigious All-Pennsylvania Academic Team for 2025. PASSHE’s 10 public universities and the 15 community colleges in Pennsylvania partner to offer the program, helping more than 800 students over two decades.

Register Now: Green Dot Bystander Intervention Training for Employees

You are invited to participate in the Green Dot bystander intervention training for employees 9-10:30 a.m. Friday, June 13, 250 McFarland Student Union. Green Dot is a research-supported training shown to reduce interpersonal violence on college campuses by equipping university employees with the skills needed to intervene in high-risk situations and model behaviors that create and strengthen healthy campus norms. Register online. Please note that there is a limit of 25 participants.
