Tree Work East Side of Stratton and Road Closure

For safety reasons, the large beech tree on the east side of Stratton will be removed Tuesday, Aug. 5. Due to the size, large equipment will be necessary. The section of Normal Avenue, from Main Street to the Stratton parking lot, will be closed for the day. Normal Avenue will be blocked at the intersection of Baldy and Normal, except for local traffic. Employees will be able to pass to access Kemp and Stratton. The Stratton lot can also be accessed by coming in from the stadium and Risley entrance. Employees in Stratton should use the entrances on the West side of the building when entering or leaving. Please avoid the area for safety reasons. The work should be completed in one day.

CEL Faculty AI Workshop and Lunch

Faculty, are you:
- feeling overwhelmed navigating the new AI landscape?
- already using AI and want to exchange ideas with colleagues?
- frustrated by student use of AI in ways that feel problematic or confusing?
- unsure what an AI statement for your course should look like?
- wondering how AI might help you or improve your class?

AI is rapidly becoming a major force in higher education. For many of us, it's time to address how AI fits into our teaching, but that's easier said than done. Adding one more thing to our teaching load can feel like too much, and what we say about AI in a large gen. ed. lecture might be totally different than what's appropriate for a senior seminar. That's why we've designed this faculty workday to give you focused time, useful resources and peer support as you prepare for the start of the semester. This is a working session designed for you. You'll get a few helpful resources, hear ideas from colleagues and then dive into your own syllabi and assignments. While we'll work together in a collaborative space, you'll be creating materials specific to your own courses. In the morning, we'll start with our syllabus and first-day handouts. In the afternoon, we’ll work on revising an assignment or two.

You'll leave with:
- Revised AI statements tailored to your course syllabi.
- One or more revised assignments, evaluations or rubrics.
- A deep sense of calm and joy about the upcoming school year.

Join us 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 13, Center for Engaged Learning, 6 Rohrbach Library. Lunch provided. Register and sign up for lunch online by noon Wednsesday, Aug. 6.
