The Clock is Ticking on the 1866 Minute Giving Challenge

We're on day two of our 1866-minute Giving Challenge, and thanks to the incredible generosity of the KU community – alumni, students, faculty, staff, parents and friends – we're making a real impact. From scholarships and experiential learning to academics, the arts, athletics and beyond, every gift so far is helping to power what we love most about KU. Your support is opening doors and creating golden opportunities for our students and campus community. But we're not done yet. There's still time to make a difference. Give to what you love today – online, by phone, in person or by mail. Step up as an advocate, tag a friend and keep an eye out for matches and challenges that can stretch your gift even further. Let's keep the momentum going – together, we can do something amazing. Don't let the clock run out – make your gift today.

"Stay Alive Make Art" Exhibition Opening

The Miller Gallery exhibition "Stay Alive and Make Art" opens with a public reception 3-5 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 16. The exhibition is on view until Sunday, Dec. 14. The Miller Gallery is located off the lobby of the fountain entrance of Sharadin Arts Building. Presented by the KU Department of Art and Design, this exhibition features the restless exploration of techniques, ideas and methods of the young prodigy Amos Lemon Burkhart, who worked to understand and express his own turbulent interior life. The complexities of emotional instability, anxiety and trauma; questions about love, sex and gender identity, and issues around substance use and abuse, are revealed in complex layered paintings and drawings. Amos died tragically in a drug and alcohol related drowning in 2018 at the age of 20. This exhibition is not only a display of art, but also features interactive stations for hands-on activities that encourage conversations about creativity, mental illness and addiction to help inspire artists to "Stay Alive and Make Art." Legos; bean bags; lava lamps; spin the Wheel of Destiny. Stay after the reception for the Creative Royale. There will be music, on-the-spot poetry and art making. Come with friends and make new ones. Students create an art piece based on a prompt with art supplies at hand. It's fun, creative and a great break from the stresses of school and life. Special thanks to Ann Lemon (KUCD emeriti) and Dane Burkhart and KU communication design for the coordination of this exhibition. Please follow @amoslemon_art on Instagram to learn more about the foundation and the touring exhibition they have created in honor of Amos.
