Alumnus, Local Teacher Recognized at State Capitol

Kutztown University alumnus and Visual Arts Educator at Catasauqua Area High School CJ Matz '12, '22M was recently recognized at the Pennsylvania State Capitol in Harrisburg. Matz, president of Pennsylvania Art Education Association (PAEA), joined representatives from Pennsylvania Creative Industries, the PA Council on the Arts and the Office of First Lady Lori Shapiro at the PA State Capitol Rotunda. Together, they unveiled Many Communities, One Commonwealth, a 6x8 foot, three-panel collage in the shape of Pennsylvania created from the original artwork of more than 180 K-12 students in celebration of America250.

Last Call for 2026 Move-In Volunteers

New Student Orientation is looking for student and staff volunteers to help unload vehicles and direct students and families during Move-In Day, Thursday, Aug. 20. Several time slots are available between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. If you would like to participate, or if you oversee a student group that is interested in volunteering, please complete this form or contact Brett Santos.

"All-Hands" Recording and Call for Volunteers

If you were unable to attend the "All-hands" meeting Monday, Aug. 10, a link is provided to view the recorded 55-minute session to learn how you can best support move-in, the new student photo, convocation and Welcome Week. The presentation ​slides​, with QR codes for completing volunteer sign-ups, provide robust details to understand changes made from last year and key information. Volunteers are still needed for all of these large-scale university initiatives. All hands (many hands) make light work. Thank you for your support.

Join Us for the Opening of Our First Public Sensory-Reduced Lounge

Together, the Office of the Provost and the Disability Services Office announce the grand opening of KU's first public sensory-reduced lounge in 121 Old Main. Made possible by the Title III Strengthening Institutions Program grant, this space features three areas designed to meet various sensory-related needs and will be open to the entire campus community using KU card swipe access. The area, consisting of a lounge, relaxation space and single-user workstation with a lab desktop computer, was carefully designed to provide a sensory-reduced space that can be used by all. Its welcoming environment includes reduced lighting, comfortable adaptive seating and a variety of options and activities. Please join us during the first free hour of the semester, 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, 121 Old Main, for the official grand opening of this space, including a ribbon cutting and the opportunity to see what the space looks like.

Micro-Internship Program

Consider creating an impactful learning opportunity by hosting a KU student in a micro-internship this fall. Micro-internships are short-term, paid, project-based experiences that enable students to build career-ready skills, expand their professional networks, gain valuable references and strengthen their résumés for future internships and full-time employment. Save the Date: What Do Today's Adult Learners Need From KU?

Join the Adult Degree Completion Taskforce for a Zoom presentation on "Reengaging Adult Learners: Understanding Today’s Adult Learner and the Degree-Completion Opportunity," 2-3:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, 250 MSU and 317 Stratton. Adult learners are returning to college with different experiences, motivations and challenges, and understanding them will be key to KU's future. This will be an important conversation about who today's adult learners are, what brings them back and how we can better support them from their first point of contact through graduation. Your perspective matters. Be part of the conversation.

The Kutztown University Writing Center will open Monday, Aug. 24. Have your students reach out for help and to schedule a writing session concerning papers for any subject or discipline. Also, please share the following information on your D2L pages.

- Online sessions: Go to Kutztown University Writing Center Online and schedule an online session. See the Online Help Page for additional instructions and screenshots. Online hours are 2-6 p.m. Sundays, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3-8 p.m. Wednesdays and noon to 4 p.m. Fridays.

If you would like to have the Writing Center come to one of your classes, give a Zoom presentation or have your class visit the Writing Center, please use this Information Session Form. These sessions can be about the KU Writing Center’s services, resources, any in-class writing information on the writing process, writing stress, citation styles, etc. The Writing Center is located in 100C Rohrbach Library.
