Kutztown University Foundation Celebrates Historic Year of Philanthropic Support

The Kutztown University Foundation has concluded fiscal year 2025-26 with the most successful fundraising year in its history, securing $12,180,939 in philanthropic commitments to support Kutztown University students, programs and priorities. The milestone eclipses the Foundation's previous fundraising record of $10,415,005, established in fiscal year 2021-22, and reflects the continued momentum of philanthropic support for Kutztown University. The record-setting year reflects the continued generosity of alumni, friends, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and community partners who are investing in student success and the university's future.

Substation Power Outage Canceled

The work that requires our substation to be temporarily shut down for preventative maintenance will be postponed. We are currently looking to reschedule over winter break. As we look at potential dates, we will reach out to various campus members to ensure this temporary outage has minimal to no impact on their operations.

Retirement of Roxanne Grim

After nine years of dedicated service to the TRIO Student Support Services and the TRIO Upward Bound programs, Roxanne Grim is retiring. We thank her for her tireless work throughout the years with our first-generation, low-income students. Please join us in wishing her well on her new adventures 2-4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, 30 Rohrbach Library, located on the bottom floor. We'll have cake and lots of laughs.

"All-Hands" Information Meeting: Move-in, Convocation, Welcome Week

As KU continues to find great success with an "all-hands" approach to major campus events, you are invited and encouraged to attend an information meeting 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, 183 MSU. Learn about move-in, convocation and Welcome Week, including volunteer needs and roles, intended outcomes/objectives and ways you can best support these initiatives. First impressions count. Let's put our best foot forward and be best prepared to welcome our new Golden Bears.

Sponsor a First-Year PROFS Student This Fall

This fall, six to eight incoming first-year students will join the PROFS program. Here’s how you can make a meaningful difference and ensure these students feel welcomed:
- Consider having your department or small group sponsor an incoming PROFS welcome kit containing dorm essentials and items for moving in.
- Donate grocery gift cards. Gift cards to Giant, which is within walking distance of campus, allow students to purchase the food they need most. Donations in the range of $20-25 are especially helpful.
- Individually or with a small group, sponsor basic need items for the welcome kits. Consider contributing one to two items that could benefit up to eight students.
Individuals who express interest in sponsoring will receive a follow-up email with more details and a shopping list. All items must be submitted by Monday, Aug. 3. If you are interested, please email Katie Sternbergh, director of Access and Persistence, or call 610-683-4169.

FYE Guides

FYE Guides are trained peer mentors who attend First-Year Seminar (FYSM) classes and support faculty in fostering first-year student success. They enhance student engagement, connect students with campus resources and provide peer encouragement and guidance without adding to the instructor's workload. Students enrolled in FYSM sections with an FYE Guide experienced higher success rates than those of students in sections without an FYE Guide over a three-year analysis. Over the past two years, students rated an average of 4.14/5 when asked if it was beneficial to have an FYE Guide in their FYS 100 course.

First-Year Seminar Workshops

First-Year Seminar workshops are designed to support faculty in enhancing their engagement with college students by providing presentations on the following topics:
- Study Skills and Test Taking Strategies
- Transition to College
- Time and Stress Management
- Technology
- Tutoring Information
Each presentation lasts approximately 40 minutes, except the Tutoring Information session which is 20 minutes. This ensures a concise yet thorough exploration of the subject matter. Presentations are most effective in the first six to eight weeks of the semester.
